BEFORE | BEACH HOUSE KIDS ROOM

With perfect So Cal weather, this Malibu Beach House has guests year round.  After designing the master suite and guest bedroom, we couldn’t wait to dive into the kids room.  It needed to be fun and cozy, while providing as much storage as possible in small quarters.  We maximized the space and gave the kiddos (and their friends) their dream room, perfect for hanging out and sleepovers by the sea.    read more

“To me bathtubs are the epitome of luxury.  Either you have no money to own one or you have no time to use one.”

BEFORE | BEACH HOUSE MASTER BATHROOM

After remodeling the master bedroom suite in this cottage by the sea, we couldn’t wait to gut their bathroom.  Untouched for decades, we schemed a design to modernize and expand the room while taking advantage of the Malibu sunshine.  The results are bright, clean, and serene!  Bye bye wood counters and grasscloth walls, hello beadboard and marble.

Malibu Master Bath 12

Who wouldn’t want to soak in this tub after a day of surf and sand?!  Peel off that wetsuit and step into a steaming hot marble shower to soothe your muscles.  We custom built the vanity with campaign hardware and a marble trough sink.  With all of those drawers, and a new chrome medicine cabinet, we could eliminate the former closet within the room.  A favorite piece of art was given new life when reframed in grey drift wood.

Malibu Master Bath 6

These blown glass beauties are mounted on metal back plates and give off a lot of light when the sun goes down.

Malibu Master Bath 10

Porcelain top glass jars from our store contain tiny shells and add a fun yet sophisticated taste of the beach inside the home.  A baby coral makes the perfect ring holder.

The sink was originally on the opposite side of the room with a small linen closet.  By switching it to the other side, it actually created space and made this restful bath a space that flowed more cohesively.

Malibu Master Bath 9

The former shower was dug out behind the old shutter door to hide the new toilet with a sliding barn door.  Pleasing to the eye, and giving privacy so more than one can be in here without cramping anyone’s privacy.

Malibu Master Bath 2

Magnificent marble!  A glass wall adds dimension without blocking off the stall from the room.  Chrome fixtures from our one of our faves, Waterworks, are modern and sleek.

This tub became the shower stall and was replaced with the claw foot classic below.

Malibu Master Bath 8

We love how even the pipes off the tub become an architectural element to the room.  The original tile on the floors was replaced with porcelain wood planks laid in a herringbone pattern.  Authentic to the rest of the house but easy to clean and able to handle all the salt and sand with a quick sweep.

Malibu Master Bath 5

Our cut crystal votives add a warm glow in the marble shoe above the tub.  A glass of wine and a good book are all you need to make this giant tub another place of solace within this dream house. Rub a dub dub, time to kick back in this tub-ular bathroom.  Stay tuned for the next phase of our breathtaking beach house makeover.

XO,
D.L.

“Every house where love abides and friendship is a guest, is surely home, and home sweet home, for there the heart can rest.” – Henry Van Dyke

BEFORE | BEACH HOUSE GUEST ROOM

Oh, to be a guest in this dreamy seaside cottage! Whether relaxing in the comfy living rooms or dining in the sun, we wanted our clients’ guests to feel as good as the owners do when retreating to their master suite.  A blank slate with no storage whatsoever, we began scheming how to maximize the room.  Cozy without feeling cramped was the main goal, and we were able to achieve just that.   read more

BEFORE | BEACH HOUSE MASTER BEDROOM

Every space within this dream house calls for people to get cozy and relax.  A weekend retreat for family and friends, with a newly remodeled vibe of calm and serene that swept into the bedrooms.  With an empty shell, the possibilities were endless when we began to draw up the master quarters.

After a day in the sun and sand, a restful night of sleep is heavenly.  Muted and natural, a clutter free room is ideal for the sweetest dreams.  A new door replaced shutters and slats, on to a deck overlooking the courtyard in the front of the house.  We said goodbye to a small closet on the opposite side of the room, and designed built-in his and hers storage to flank the door without encroaching on the open space of the room.

You can’t get cozier than our Mongolian Sheep Throw.  The softest thing you’ve ever felt, and it adds dimension and texture to crisp white bedding.  That headboard tho!  A vintage hand embroidered blanket from one of our favorite LA based textile designers, Peter Dunham, became the perfect backdrop for the room.  A custom built bed is one of our favorite things to design as it gives each client a one of a kind beauty, and guarantees a plush factor that is a must! With a bold pattern, it becomes the artwork of the room.

Concrete and brass lamps blend effortlessly with these leather nightstands.  Our best selling bone tray is just right to hold a bedside decanter of water and fresh cut flowers.

Here is the tiny closet original to the room which was replaced with the new built-storage for the Mr. and Mrs.  The walls were filled in and made the room appear much larger with the new elongated wall.

Petrified Wood is one of my favorite materials for design.  This narrow console is the perfect fit under a new flat screen, and a place for some of our favorite vintage treasures and finds.  The feather headress from Bali is ready for an impromptu dance session.

It is impossible to not be overwhelmed with joy with a view like that.  Morning glory and evening delight ensue when letting the crashing waves of the Pacific wake you up, and lull you to sleep.

Our rattan lounger is waiting for someone to curl up with a good read, or to marvel at the insane ombre of the ocean in Malibu. Some things cannot be replicated, and that palatte is truly a wonder of nature.  Stay tuned for the next chapter of our Beach House Remodel…
