MODERN VINTAGE DOMICILE – PART IV 520 347 admin

“No one who cooks, cooks alone. Even at her most solitary, a cook in the kitchen is surrounded by generations of cooks past, the advice and menus of cooks present, the wisdom of cookbook writers.”
– Laurie Colwin

PASADENA KITCHEN - BEFORE

We had forgotten just how dramatic this kitchen remodel was until we recently looked (courtesy of MLS, thank you very much!) through the before pics of this house.  Fifty shades of brown and there was no Christian Gray in sight.  Heavy cabinetry and stone floors overwhelmed this kitchen,  it was time to transform this space into the glory it deserved.   read more

“Any time women come together with a collective intention, it’s a powerful thing. Whether it’s sitting down making a quilt, in a kitchen preparing a meal, in a club reading the same book, or around the table playing cards, when women come together with a collective intention, magic happens.” – Phylicia Rashad

KITCHEN - BEFORE

Remodeling a house is like peeling an onion, layer by layer you remove the old to reveal it’s inner delight.  After creating a bright and airy kitchen and dining room in their beach house, our clients couldn’t wait to do a modern update in their Hancock Park home.  With good bones to start with, we kept the layout of the room to maximize space and got to work on lessening the weight of this heavy kitchen.   read more

“As I grew steadily more comfortable in the kitchen, I found that, much like gardening, most cooking manages to be agreeably absorbing without being too demanding intellectually.  It leaves plenty of mental space for daydreaming and reflection.”
– Michael Pollan

With a love for entertaining and hosting fabulous dinner parties, we couldn’t wait to dive into the kitchen, and give it a lighter feel, flowing from the adjacent dining room.  The cabinetry was fairly new, but felt heavy in the space.  The power of color can transform anything…  read more

“My interest in theater and story telling began in my mother’s kitchen.  It was a meeting place for my mother’s large circle of friends.”  – Lynn Notage

BEFORE | KITCHEN & COMMUNAL LIVING ROOM

There is so much to love about this office, and no space was left unturned when planning out each area’s form and function.  With the communal living room anchoring the center of the floor,  the kitchen was built off of that keeping an open floor plan that would extend its lofty vibe.  With nothing but the wall and pillars existing, the possibilities were endless.  The company owners worked with the building’s architect on the layout, and we loved the floor plan.  With some minor tweaks and an idea of how to fill the space, we couldn’t wait for the bones to be built so we could style and profile this dream kitchen.  read more
