Aren’t we all dreaming of a White Christmas?  Just because we live in sunny Los Angeles, doesn’t mean you can’t cozy up your home with wintery accents.  We had a blast decorating and creating fresh florals for one of our favorite families for their annual party, and with hearty items they can enjoy all month long.   read more

SUPER GREEN HEALING TEA

“As far as Mom was concerned, tea fixed everything.  Have a cold?  Have some tea.  Broken bones?  There’s a tea for that too.  Somewhere in her mother’s pantry, Laurel suspected, was a box of tea that said, ‘In case of Armageddon, steep three to five minutes’.”  – Aprilynne Pike, Illusions

Green Cold Brew Tea, Flor Essence, Chlorophyll, Herbal Tea Anthology

Tea, an age old beverage that has been in different cultures throughout the world for centuries has finally become a mainstay in my daily life.   I used to love nothing more than a diet coke at lunch or some old school ice tea from the restaurant around the corner from my store.   Those days are gone, as I have moved onto something that will benefit my body instead of dehydrating it with a slew of processed chemicals and junk.   When I was diagnosed with cancer last year,  an old friend and skin care extraordinaire – Diane Rudolph, gave me a cold brew tea infuser.  She had got me onto a skin care regime through Rodan and Fields (click here for link to her products) and suggested I  try making green tea each day.   How could I refuse, especially when she gifted me with the tool to make it!?  Now I am hooked, and I have tailored it to what works best for me.  I highly recommend this for anyone looking to clean and gently detox their body, and help with digestion each day.  read more

INGREDIENTS FOR ALMOND CHOCOLATE DATE TRUFFLES

Even the most health conscious eater, craves a little culinary indulgence once in a while.  In keeping with my regime of eliminating as much junk as I can from diet (as well as the rest of my family), I have been seeking out alternatives to sugary processed foods.   My kitchen has always been pretty healthy, but I definitely made my share of cookies for sleepovers and bake sales, and sometimes, just because we all wanted a treat.  I was going through the recipe archives of my friend The Urban Baker – the same one who brought you the lentil bolognese, and came across this delectable treat that she had made for one of my store events.  How did I forget about these!?  Packed with natural wholesome ingredients, no one would ever believe these are chock full of things that do a body good.  Did I mention, they are also vegan?  read more

Lentil Bolognese Ingredients | D.L. RHEIN

Have I mentioned how much I love pasta?!  I think it’s safe to say that I am not alone here.  I don’t think I’ll ever be ready to swear it off completely, but there are some delicious alternatives that are just as good with the right accoutrements.  That is definitely the case with this Lentil Bolognese served over spaghetti squash instead of its starchy counterpart.  As much as I dig all veggies, trying to convince the girl who worked at one of the best authentic Italian restaurants in LA in her younger years that lentils were as good as meat in a sauce was a hard sell.  My friend and food blogger extraordinaire – Susan Salzman, made me a believer with her amazing recipe on The Urban Baker.  Trust me, from the mouths of babes, my children flipped over this meal!  read more
