“The thrill of coming home has never changed.” – Guy Pearce
BEFORE | Black Top Natural Console
The entry way to a home is the first thing anyone sees. An inviting space which is both clean and beautiful is enticing to guests and makes the dwellers of the home feel good every time they open the front door. This foyer was quite narrow due to the large staircase and is the connector to all rooms downstairs. The search for the perfect piece began and ended in my garage, a treasure trove of vintage and antique wonders that I have been collecting as I find them, knowing they will be perfect when refinished and given a new home. While pilfering for the right option for this entry, when I saw this console hidden under some chairs, I knew it was just right for this challenging space. Needing some TLC to bring it into the modern era, the facelift made this a real showstopper.
The original top was a faux finish in green and black and cut in an odd shape. A new stunning slab in grey and white gives it a mod edge when cut in straight lines. The ochre colored wood is hand rubbed in several stages to give the carving amazing detail and interesting layers.
It’s all in the details. Carved flowers and fluting become 3 dimensional when brought to life with layers of stain and a grey wash.
We all kvelled over the amount of veins in this beauty. Marble continues to amaze me in all of its glory and unexpected patterns.
A vintage painting of Greece was a terrific find for this entry as the colors of the buildings match the shades within the marble and wood. A pair of carved pewter lamps are works of art in their own right. The final touch of an over sized quartz specimen is not only beautiful, but helps ground the space with good energy. This happy home continues to evolve as we go room by room.
