“Every door way, every intersection has a story.” – Katherine Dunn
A new year brings new beginnings, fresh starts, and the desire to cherish every moment. Last year, we had the pleasure of working with these footloose and fancy free clients on both of their homes. While this historic Pasadena Georgian was getting gutted, we furnished and refreshed their Ojai retreat so they could have some calm amidst the construction. We have been bursting at the seams to share this incredible home remodel with you!
When a home falls within a historic district, there are certain things to keep in mind when planning a remodel and to honor the original architecture. With a brick exterior our clients fell in love with, we wanted to update the look, without changing its old school charm. Adding classic shutters, and turning the bright white trim into a soft black offered a dramatic change that was a lot of bang for the buck. A narrow brick path was widened and whitewashed creating a perfect path to the home of their dreams.
Bye Bye brick path and border…
Hello indigenous, drought friendly plants. Look at the size of these beautiful old trees!

Ohh the wonders of white…
One of the very best parts of this project was our clients creative and open minds. Knowing their taste and desires, getting to take our time to curate and hunt for each and every piece was a true labor of love. And how about that staircase!? Replacing wood spindles for metal and turning the floor from walnut to natural lightened and elevated the entry to another level, see what we did there?
Black against natural wood, we’re swooning. A pair of midcentury vases, vintage books, a nude watercolor, and my fave vintage lamp find of all time! Each room of this house is its own unique treasure. Stay tuned for the next part of this Modern Vintage Domicile.
