“When a child is locked in the bathroom with water running and he says he’s doing nothing but the dog is barking, call 911.” – Erma Bombeck
BEFORE | BOY’S BATHROOM
Many of my friends are at a stage where the kids have gone from child to young adult in the blink of an eye. Creativity blossoms, voices deepen, and they are more up to speed on the state of the world than we are most of the time. This family is blessed with two gorgeous young men that are fraternal twins. How perfect that this bathroom connects their rooms! With different tastes and personas, we wanted to remodel their bathroom into something that was modern and tranquil. Busy bees with multiple talents, their new “restroom” is a place to unwind after days filled with school and activities that will carry them into college.
The perfect grey (by Benjamin Moore of course) transforms the walls into an effortless match with the marble veins and new floors. I know what you’re thinking, wood in the bathroom?! Nope, these beauties are faux bois ceramic tile. Even if someone gets crazy overfilling the tub, this wood will never warp.
BEFORE | LEFT SIDE OF TUB
We put in a new modern tub and switched the fixturing to the other side. This allowed for a true shelf to be created, and just the right space for a woven basket filled with luxe new towels. Bye bye red, hello grey and white! An oxidized vintage urn from France holds potted flowers for a touch of nature that isn’t too sweet.

BEFORE SHOWER AND SHELVES
The tub and shower went from this, to this…
Brass hardware and fixtures makes a bold statement in an otherwise serene palatte. What a difference it made to switch the tub from one side to the other and actually created more space!
Another beautiful, yet cost effective trick of the trade. That marble shower, isn’t marble at all. Rather, these are marbled tiles ready to withstand years of water without sacrificing style.
BEFORE | FLOORS
The shower floor had taken a beating after daily use from two boys over the years.
Voila! Say hello to the magic of river rocks. Although they are smooth, they provide some traction and camouflage all the things that white tile can never mask.
Fringed Turkish towels are perfect for them to grab after washing the day away or if they are ready for a dip in the pool.
A little touch of whimsy is always a good thing when done in just the right place. A vintage brass seal (one of our current obsessions) looks playful between two shell balls. New zig zag towels and bathmats from Target are plush and cozy and stayed within our budget. I can’t decide what was more delightful when we finished the job, being serenaded by one twin’s concert pianist concerto filling the house, or the other twin stopping in to say how much he loved the new room and couldn’t wait to jump in the shower.
