INGREDIENTS FOR ALMOND CHOCOLATE DATE TRUFFLES
Even the most health conscious eater, craves a little culinary indulgence once in a while. In keeping with my regime of eliminating as much junk as I can from diet (as well as the rest of my family), I have been seeking out alternatives to sugary processed foods. My kitchen has always been pretty healthy, but I definitely made my share of cookies for sleepovers and bake sales, and sometimes, just because we all wanted a treat. I was going through the recipe archives of my friend The Urban Baker – the same one who brought you the lentil bolognese, and came across this delectable treat that she had made for one of my store events. How did I forget about these!? Packed with natural wholesome ingredients, no one would ever believe these are chock full of things that do a body good. Did I mention, they are also vegan?
ROLLING THE TRUFFLES IN CRUSHED ALMONDS
The ingredients within this recipe are as good for you as they taste. The main base for these yummies are dates which are easily digested, allowing the body to make full use of their health benefits, and protect cells from damage due to free radicals. Cinnamon, a natural anti-inflammatory, may also reduce the proliferation of cancer cells. Have you discovered the magic of Coconut Oil yet? You will be amazed at how many uses it has, aside from being loaded with anti oxidants. You will probably be shocked to know that cocoa beans aren’t just what makes chocolate taste so good. They contain 621 antioxidants, as opposed to wild blueberries which contain 61. I’m not telling you to not eat blueberries, but don’t be shy with a good piece of dark chocolate when cravings call. And lest we forget, the almighty almond. My personal favorite, a perfect snack as it is high in fiber and protein. Almonds are the only nut which have an alkaline effect on the the body which is conducive to a disease free environment. I could go on and on about all of these ingredients, but will let you do some reading via the highlighted links in this post when you are relaxing with one of these bountiful balls in your belly.
