03 Apr Office on a Budget
“Thank you paper clips, for being like staples that can’t commit.” – Jimmy Fallon
BEFORE | Shared Office Space
What to do with a cramped office space needing an update on a budget? Go to Ikea! This entertainment office was desperate for organization and some updating while keeping to a tight budget. The simplest solution, built in cabinetry that was clean and modern that could hide the chaos behind it’s doors! Before the desks were crammed around an open shelving unit that looked like a college dorm room during finals week. After placing new Vika desks on either side of the new work station comprised of pieces from the Akurum collection, the office is functional and spacious. A DL Rhein hooked rug adds a splash of color and pattern to the neutral flooring.
I like a square leg on rectangular desk so I chose the Sjunne leg to go with the Vika top. That’s part of the fun at Ikea, as you can mix and match pieces to suit the needs of each project. Acrylic and lucite furniture have become a favorite of mine the last few years and the Tobias Chair was just the right fit for the sleek desk. A vintage globe stacked on dictionaries adds a touch of whimsy and color. Everyday items are stored in vintage glass jars for easy access.

AFTER | Kitchen Space
Since the workspace was moved to the area between the desks, we had room to give this office a mini kitchen space complete with a compact fridge, microwave, and coffee station. The cabinetry is from the Perfekt collection with a Numerar laminate countertop that mimicks stainless steel. The look we were going for, at a price that didn’t break the bank! Sometimes a remodel is as simple as reappointing existing pieces and adding new that will double as storage. After reworking my own studio, I know the benefits and relief that come from an overhaul – peace of mind and funcionality!
