25 Jan MODERN VINTAGE DOMICILE – PART III
“I can remember dancing around the living room with my two sisters to the music of Paganini and Mozart. I can still remember my dad combing the newspaper, circling all the free concerts in town, and on the weekends, we would go as a family.”
– Lindsey Stirling
BEFORE | LIVING ROOM
It takes a keen eye and a creative brain to be able to look into the future and imagine how something so far from your taste can go from drab to fab. When our clients first pulled up to an Historic Brick Georgian, they were certain this would not be the home for them. Once they walked through it they realized it was exactly what they were looking for. These free spirits were truly able to envision the possibilities of transformation and trust that we would deliver their dream home after working with them on past projects. A living room straight out of Mt. Vernon was beckoning to be brought into the 21st century…
From Betsy Ross to Like A Boss! Much like the dining room remodel, it’s hard to believe this was ever the previous room. Crisp white walls and custom built ins bathed in the perfect charcoal grey set a dramatic framework for bursts of color. Vintage Lawrence Peabody fiberglass wingback chairs found on the hunt in pristine condition made our hearts skip a beat. I have yet to meet a vintage cane or bamboo piece of furniture that I don’t like. This giant coffee table is a marriage of the two and exactly the size we wanted for the space.
Wonder where the tv is in this room? Behind those doors! Love being able to conceal it when not in use, and how it exaggerates the fireplace as the main focal point of the room. We removed the red brick facing and replaced it with a fun and modern tile that is a work of art in itself.
World travelers and avid readers, we needed to give them ample room for their constantly growing collection of books. Floor to ceiling custom built ins with hidden storage below for all other media frame out the new doors leading to their Shangri-La. Sumptuous navy velvet couches make this room a place you just want to kick back and chill in for days.
Peter Dunham’s Circles print for the win above the chesterfield! Bold enough to make an impact, tonally in tune with the vibe of this groovy living room.
Goodbye antebellum living room…
Hello modern vintage family room. A faux ivory horn and brass Tomasso Barbi side table crossed our path and was just what the corner between the sofas was calling for! Modern swing arm chandeliers reminiscent of a Calder mobile compliment this room without overwhelming it.
Once the built ins were chock full o’ books, we had to find another way to house their home library. An antique church bench to the rescue! A classic marble lamp turned modern by removing the shade and harp and placing a large Edison bulb in their place. Did we mention we’d love to house sit?! Stay tuned for the next part of this Modern Vintage Domicile. You’re gonna flip over the kitchen…
