From Boring to Blazing

“A chair is a very difficult object.  A skyscraper is almost easier.  That is why Chippendale is famous.” – Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

From Drab to Fab - A Makeover | @D.L. Rhein

As unsightly as these chairs were in burnt orange velvet,  they caught my eye while I was out hunting,  as they were a great size and interesting shape.  I loved that it could stand alone, or be the perfect pair.  We sanded and stained the existing wood into a dark ebony finish.  It didn’t take long to agree that Schumaker’s Chiang Mai Fabric in Aquamarine would pop beautifully against the blackened wood.

Only one was delivered complete from the upholsterer as we were waiting on more fabric.  A client came to our studio to choose mirrors for her bedroom and walked in and said, “I need that chair!  I wish you had another.”

“Not to worry”, I said, “We do.  Take this one home and see if you like it.”  She called within in hour and said that it was just what she needed for her home office  and she definitely wanted the second.  Sorry Jess, you will have to come up with a new idea for the April windows…

XO,

D.L.
