DUPLICITOUS DUPLEX – PART II

28 Aug DUPLICITOUS DUPLEX – PART II

“The kitchen really is the castle itself.  This is where we spend our happiest moments and where we find the joy of being a family.” – Mario Batali

BEFORE | Kitchen Remodel

BEFORE | KITCHEN

After remodeling the living and dining rooms, we couldn’t wait to dig into this kitchen, sink and all!  It was time to modernize not only the aesthetic, but its appliances and functionality.  In keeping with the rest of the home’s facelift, a sleek ebony and ivory palate was just what the juje doctor ordered!  I told my contractor, make everything blanc and call me in the morning.

Mansfield After Kitchen Nook B

The breakfast nook is a point of entry to the kitchen, so we wanted to keep things consistent.  Not only does it look uniform, it enhances the illusion of a longer and more open space.  Dark Grey Chroma counter tops add a dramatic contrast and will withstand years of use between tenants.  A black stove top and built-in microwave add additional breaks from this bright, light filled canvas.  Ceramic Faux Bois tiles are laid in a herringbone pattern to add movement.  Believe it or not, these are incredibly affordable and look just as good as any fancy pants flooring.   These are a favorite for kitchens and baths as they look beautiful and can be easily cleaned and withstand heavy traffic and spillage.  No one will be crying over milk in this kitchen!

Mansfield After Laundry

Energy efficient stackable washer and dryers are perfectly hidden in this new spacious pantry.   Custom built shelves provide plenty of storage and make things easily accessible.  Thank you Mr. Hong!  Shutter front doors become part of the architectural features of this space when closed, and house all of the homes necessities.

The sink and its fixtures add a touch of chrome and reflection, and are mirrored by the new stainless steel refrigerator.  Chrome hardware throughout the space ties it all together.

Mansfield Before Kitchen A

 BEFORE | KITCHEN

Au revoir to old tiles and mismatched colors!  Hello to a beautiful transformation of the kitchen leading into it’s matching breakfast nook.  Ah, the clean wide open spaces make my heart sing.

Mansfield After Kitchen A

We always salvage what we can when beginning a remodel.  The cabinet doors were solid wood and in good shape so we were able to repaint and add hardware, creating the illusion of new custom built cabinetry.  All of the appliances came from Home Depot.  I love to cook and I dreamed of the meals that will be created in this utilitarian space filled with love, laughter and sunlight.   Stay tuned for Part III of this inspiring project…

XO,
D.L.
