07 Aug CURIOUS VALLEY HIDEAWAY – PART III
“As I grew steadily more comfortable in the kitchen, I found that, much like gardening, most cooking manages to be agreeably absorbing without being too demanding intellectually. It leaves plenty of mental space for daydreaming and reflection.”
– Michael Pollan
BEFORE | ENCINO KITCHEN
With a love for entertaining and hosting fabulous dinner parties, we couldn’t wait to dive into the kitchen, and give it a lighter feel, flowing from the adjacent dining room. The cabinetry was fairly new, but felt heavy in the space. The power of color can transform anything…
Who needs 50 shades of grey when the perfect hue can be found in the veins of marble countertops thanks to Mother Nature?! Painting the cabinetry in a soft grey modernized the room and gave it a much lighter feel.

The grey cabinets now make the white subway tile sparkle. Let the sunshine in!
This kitchen was in desperate need of an island so we custom built one and matched the marble from the countertops. I love the multi function of additional prep space and a place to grab a quick bite or watch the chef in action. These vintage barstools were a super find on one of our hunts. A stunning leather with metal bases in mint condition, our client fell in love at first sight just like we did.
The stainless steel fridge practically disappears next to these sleek cabinet doors. Modern brass hardware adds a pop to an otherwise monotone kitchen, and picks up the warmth of the wood floors. Coming up next is the complete remodel of the second half of this fab chef’s kitchen. Stay tuned!
