11 Jun CURATED DINING ROOM
“Inviting close friends over to share a meal with candlelight and wine at your table could be a form of religious experience for some people. To me it’s a form of sacrament.”
– Sally Quinn
BEFORE | DINING ROOM
Upon the completion of the living room, bar, and kitchen in this fab Encino ranch, this Tuscan-esque dining room was begging to be remodeled. First on the list, remove the rafters and stain the maple floors to match the rest of the house for cohesion and a modern update. You won’t believe how it unfolded…
AFTER | DINING ROOM
Look how open and spacious this room is now! High back chairs were replaced with sexier, rounded lines in these Sylvie Chairs from one of our favorite vendors, Made Goods. Keeping with the Mrs. of the house and her eclectic taste, we replaced the rug with a beautiful vintage Kilim runner. Green walls were bathed in the perfect white giving the space a fresh look and bouncing the valley sunshine throughout the room.
BEFORE | DINING ROOM FIRE PLACE
Oh the fireplace! What to do with this immense wall of stone?! Add dimension to provide function as well as architectural detail.
The addition of a center panel broke up the monotony and was the perfect balance between the shelves we put in. This allowed for special pieces to be displayed, and gave the room much needed texture and levels of height.
STELLA!!!!!!! No, it’s not Stanley Kowalski screaming his wife’s name. But rather, the name of this stunning hand made mirror. Placed with meticulous precision, hundreds of silver abalone make up the piece of reflective art. Large white coral specimens flank nude charcoal drawings I bought from an art student on a trip to Miami.
Everything’s coming up roses, and this chandelier is no exception! We stumbled upon this smokey topaz tinted beauty on one of our vintage hunts. It was in pristine condition and gives this dining room a touch of old Hollywood glamor.
BEFORE | MAPLE BUILT IN
Bye Bye Maple Built-In…
Hello cream colored yumminess! Small brass rectangular knobs replaced the old round ones helped turn this even more modern. A mica flecked wallcovering by Phillip Jeffries adds sparkle and shine and serves as the perfect backdrop for our sunburst mirrors. Silver rimmed hurricanes anchor the counter, and our bone inlay tray adds some interesting contrast holding our favorite decanters from Arteriors. A vintage watercolor and purple glass grapes from the ’60’s play off the vibrant accents of pink and purple in the room.
Gold Prescott Sconces play off the gold accents flanking the room. A vintage cocktail set edged in gold was made for this fabulous marbled lucite tray.
Nothing makes my heart sing more than fresh flowers. Two large arrangements add a vibrant pop to a vintage Moroccan tray that can’t wait to be lit with colorful mercury glass votives.
Hard to believe this….
Turned into this! Clean, cool, and carefully curated. The same could be said about my friend’s taste in fashion and how much fun we have had collaborating since we were 6 years old. So many reasons this project has made my heart swell. One more transformation in this house left to share, stay tuned!
