“I believe that anyone can cook a great meal.  Basically all you need is to get your hands on some fresh ingredients and not be afraid to make a mess in the kitchen.”

With weekend guests and holidays spent at this magical getaway, we wanted to create a kitchen conducive for this family who loves to cook and entertain.  After remodeling the dining room, we couldn’t wait to demo this kitchen and build a new one from scratch.

With a narrow space to work with, we wanted to maximize every square inch and create plenty of storage so the kitchen would not be cluttered.  The first thing to go was the L shaped counter which blocked the flow and made the room appear even smaller.  Existing cabinetry was removed and replaced with modern built-ins. We covered the walls with white subway tiles, making clean ups a breeze and adding a bit of shine to an otherwise matte area.  The original floors were beautiful but in need of some TLC.  A good sanding brought them back to life.

Goodbye little oven and tiled countertops…

Hello to a new Viking range and marble countertops!  Stainless steel is a must in a modern kitchen, and plays off the grey veins in the Carrara marble.  Custom cabinets and beveled door fronts are simple and chic with new chrome hardware.

Surf’s up!  A fresh batch of margaritas are the perfect drink to end a day of fun in the sun.

Tiled countertops can only stay clean for so long and the existing sink was not reaching its full potential.

Cabinets were removed and replaced with pantry storage on the left where an unused side door used to reside.  Open shelving makes everyday items easily accessible.  Now, a giant trough sink can handle even the dirtiest of jobs!  Our favorite hand soap in Mediteranee is the perfect sent for this oceanside retreat.  Handmade marbled concrete objects I found at an artist collective in Northern Cali hold anything from utensils to air plants.

What a delightful way to start the morning with coffee and tea in this beautiful new kitchen!  Sunny and bright, everything in this house came out just right.  Stay tuned for the next chapter as we remodel the bedrooms and baths…

XO,
D.L.
