09 Jun BEAUTEOUS BEDROOM
“It was a woman’s bedroom, actually a boudoir, and no man belonged in it except by invitation.” – Kathleen Winsor
BEFORE | BEDROOM
A young and fabulous customer of ours has been bi-coastal for a couple of years and therefore never put her roots all the way down in LA. With a budding acting/singing career in the works, she realized it was time to spend some serious time in LA each year. A visit from Mom (sometimes that’s what it takes no matter how old we are) prompted a call asking me to turn an afterthought into a home for her daughter. A stunning apartment with breathtaking views in the El Royale, is an historic reminder of old Hollywood glamour and the perfect backdrop for creating a starlet’s oasis.
Loving the soothing color of her headboard, we decided to go white with the furniture to further enhance the clean and zen vibe creating a relaxed environment reminiscent of a spa. Pops of color perfectly enhance each area creating a vignette of beauty in every corner. An antiqued brass sunburst mirror adds reflection and whimsy.
Moroccan details on vintage nightstands become mod when refinished in white lacquer. Our client loved them so much, they were taken away to be transformed before we had time to grab a proper before pic! A vintage cloisonee pot filled with orchids is a staple in every room. A bamboo brass tray is gleaming after some TLC and elbow grease brought back its original luster. A chinoiserie pair of lamps anchor each bedside table.
BEFORE | EMPTY WALL
A bakery cabinet from our Third Street Store looks straight out of a Parisian shop with it’s new look in white lacquer. Now she can “shop” for the perfect bag each day before she sets out for a day in LA.
BEFORE | DRESSER
This dresser was the perfect piece as it allows for clothing storage (much needed given the tiny closets in older buildings) and serves as a window bench without obstructing the views. The ball castors were replaced with feet and original hardware plated in bronze, turning this piece mod instead of Maude (like a Granny. “Please, no Granny furniture!” she exclaimed) Sheer silk turned custom curtains allow for plenty of light to spill into this sunny corner room creating a sexy, draped flow while billowing in the wind. With a happy client and an ecstatic mama, we got the green light to remake her living and dining room. Stay tuned for the next transformation in this historic Hollywood hideaway.
